A LIVING HOOP the Denver March Powwow Song

(Howard Bad Hand, Winter 1988-89)

At the Denver March Powwow 1988 closing session, the DMP Committee requested of Howard and Red Leaf Takoja a song for the committee. So, after much contemplation, this song resulted.

“He Ska Oyate Ki! Oskate ki le luhapi
ki Cangleska ca niun welo. Sitomniya,
Tankasila nan Unci Maka ko,
Oniciyapi nan Wiyuskinya waci au welo!

White Mountain People!
This celebration that you have
is Living Hoop.
From all over the universe,
even Grandfather Creator and Grandmother Earth
help you, and all joyfully come to dance!

DANCERS, COME TO THE CENTER!

(Pat Bad Hand, Winter 1988-89)

At a benefit powwow held at the Taos Community Center, Taos, NM, for Jackie Anderson in January, 1989, the group sang this song as an intertribal.

Waci wicasa ki cokata upo!
Ohiyokipi yelo

Dancers! Come to the Center!
This is a good time!

PEOPLE WE'VE COME!

People, we’ve come!
Indian People! We’ve come to the
center!
Where are they dancing?
They’re dancing over here!

COME TO THE GRASS DANCE
